Organic Mined Minerals Goal...Soil is not an organism by itself, but it has rich and manifold life in it.  The importance of beneficial micro-organisms living in your soil is the goal of sustainable agriculture. The benefits are enormous! The soil works as Mother Nature intended. The soil is able to help create its’ own fertilizer and nutrient factory, and provide food for micro-organisms and plants.

Uses for Calcium Bentonite Clay

Bentonite - Montmorillonite is a so-called triple-layer clay mineral. Because of their disc-shaped crystal structure these triple-layer clay minerals have a very high specific surface (600-800m2/gram) with the ability to store water molecules and nutrients ions on their surface. A soil's ability to retain water (particularly in sandy soil and especially with strong solar radiation) significantly increases when a triple-layer clay mineral is added, so the water stored in the soil is available to the plants over a longer period of time. Another important characteristic of these clay minerals is their high capacity for ion exchange. So-called "crystal mistakes" cause the clay minerals to be negatively charged, which is why they can bind nutrient ions such as potassium, ammonia, calcium and magnesium, this product (Bentonite / Montmorillonite-Select) can be used as a binder and, or nutrient supplement in most all products where a binder is required. As a specialty of this process it has been discovered that the nutrients are largely protected against being washed out, but can be absorbed by the plants.

Calcium bentonite, also known as bentonite and pascalite, is a mined ore. An ore is any mineral valuable enough to be mined. The major mineral found in bentonite is montmorillonite. It is water absorbent and found readily as clay. The colloidal property of calcium bentonite clay is what makes it advantageous for a variety of industrial uses. The clay is an evenly distributed mixture that swells when it comes in contact with water.

Spraying citrus (lime; Citrus auranticola (Christm.) Swing.) plants with clay suspensions containing kaolin or mixtures of kaolin and bentonite (montrorillonite) markedly reduced the rate of natural colonization by winged spiraea aphids. The reduced colonization seems to be caused by the white coating of clay deposited on the leaves. Bentonite increases the adhesion of the clay suspensions on the leaves. These results suggest that clay suspensions may provide an ecologically acceptable control method for aphids, particularly under dry conditions.
